The philanthropic engagement
of Mr. Richard M. Hong is part of a family
tradition initiated by his father, Mr. Ch-
ien-Chuan Hong, when he established in 1971 the
Hong’s Foundation for Education and Culture,
Taiwan’s earliest corporate foundation. NSFG
Foundation pursues the commitment of the Hong
family towards supporting arts an-
dhumanities by
making funding for the arts a major component of
its activities. As such,
the foundation has spo-
nsored for the past ten years many local arts
groups and individual overseas performances.
Since 2003, the foundation has been sponsoring
the Pursuit of Excellence in Performing Arts
Project. By com-
bining the resources of NSFG
foundation with those of other corporations in
Taiwan, this project provides long ter-
mgrants
to support the artistic creation of talented
local performing arts groups, from the initial
development stag-
e to the actual production and
performance. This project has become in recent
years an important component of
the foundation’s
work in supporting the arts, as evidenced by the
marketing support and the long-term grants giv-
en
to arts groups.
The Cultivation of Young Creative Talent
Project, an offshoot of the Pursuit of
Excellence in Performing Arts Pr-
oject, is
sponsored in whole by NSFG Foundation,
co-organized by the National Culture and Arts
Foundation, a-
nd carried out under the direction
of Mr. Lin Hwai-Min, founder of the Cloud Gate
Dance Theatre. The goal of this project is to
discover and nurture young creators in the field
of performing arts. Young artists under 35
years old
with performing experience are
selected to take part in a series of lectures
hosted by renowned creators in the fi-
elds of
performing arts, visual arts, cinema and design
who share with students their professional
experience.Th-
e courses become a forum for
creation, for appreciating performances, and for
spiritual growth. Now in its third e-
dition, the
project has trained 80 young artists and
fostered creative ties between these representatives of variou-
s disciplines.
